The best parts were any scenes at the blue house with Julia. I also really liked the main character's BFF, Pia.
This one gets three out of three Starbucks logos. It was a great book.
But, it held my interest throughout, and it was interesting, so I give it two out of three Starbucks logos.
So last night, Linnea and I went to see the new Shrek movie. It was good, but I liked it less than the others. It was really short, though, and Justin Timberlake was in it, which I liked. Plus, I like any movie where a fat redhead with funny ears and ugly skin can get married, and in this new movie, have a family.
There were a LOT of kids in the theater, though. Like, a LOT. I realize that this is an animated movie, but it is not something I'd bring a kid under 11 to. The four year old (or possibly younger) next to me was cute, but asked questions the ENTIRE time. "Why did he say THAT, MOOOOMMMMMM?" "Did he DIE, Mommmmm?" And I know the adult jokes in the movie are supposed to go over kids' heads, but if I were a nine-year-old sitting there with my mom or dad, I'd be mortified to hear some of that stuff, because I'd totally Get It, and would be embarrassed.
The movie was cute, though, so it gets three out of three Starbucks logos.
This book ruled. I finished it during my unscheduled days off last week, and it was awesome. Three out of three Starbucks logos, for RULING!, even though the ending wasn't what I'd hoped for (I really wanted her to die).
Sharp Objects gets three out of three Starbucks logos, for RULING.
I do have a problem with the title, though. The first Heather Wells book (which I didn't read) was Size 12 is Not Fat. I did not read this book based entirely on the title, because I disagree. As a size 12 (in some stores), I can verify that size 12 is, in fact, fat. And size 14 is even fatter. If I ever wear a size 14 again, I will be really, really depressed about it.
But, the book was cute, even if it did feature lots of cutesy, cheesy cliches about how It's Okay to Not Be Skinny and Big Girls are People, Too! Which, I agree with both of those things, except for how for me, it is not okay to not be skinny, but whatever. I am glad there are other fat people in the world to keep me company. The book wasn't terrible, and I'll probably read the one coming out next year, which has an even more deplorable title (Big Boned, can you stand it?).
I give Size 14 is Not Fat Either one out of three Starbucks logos for having a dumb title and stupid cliches throughout, but still kind of charming me a little.
I was super excited because I loved the first two movies, and I adore both Spider-Man and Batman (duh, both are Hallowe'en animals and both rule). The movie last night did not disappoint at all. There was emo Peter Parker, there was black suit Spidey, there was the blonde chick who looks just like Jaclyn, and there was Topher Grace, ruling.
Plus, we got gift bags after the movie was over that had posters and t-shirts in them. I put the poster up in my cube first thing this morning, and brought the shirt in so I could brag about being awesome some more to my co-workers (I am sure they loved it).
I give Spider-Man 3 three out of three Starbucks logos because it was uberrude and uberruling.
I'll admit that I skimmed the last chapter or so of the book, and the epilogue, where she talks about "cucumbering" herself. But the rest of the book was really funny, and held my interest the entire time. It's not the kind of book I'd normally read, but Linnea really liked it, and usually her picks are good. This one did not disappoint.
I give Dork Whore two out of three Starbucks logos, because while it was funny, there was a lot of talk about putting bananas in girly bits, and then the whole cucumbering thing, and, well, ew.
